FINAL PRESS RELEASE OF THE SIXTH SESSION OF THE NATIONAL MEDICAL, PHARMARCEUTICAL AND ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL COMMISSION OF CAMEROON
On Friday, May 25, 2018, the 6th Ordinary session of the National Medical, Pharmaceutical and Odontostomatological Commission of Cameroon (NMPOCC) was held at 10:00 in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Higher Education, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Academie Orders.
Created by Order N°.055/PM of 10 June 2013 by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, this Commission is responsible for issuing technical opinions on the quality of training of health professionals in public and private academic institutions of Cameroon, so as to consolidate academic, technological and professional quality in medical training institutions.
Present at the meeting were, the representative of the Minister of Public Health who is the Vice-Chairperson to this Commission, a representative of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Rector of the University of Yaoundé l, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea, representatives of the partner administrations, the representatives of National Medical Councils and the Deans of accredited Public and Private Medical Training Establishments.
After the adoption of the report of the 5th session held on June 09, 2017, and the balance sheet of national examinations organized in Septernber and October of 2017, the following recommendations and resolutions, resulting from frank and constructive exchanges on points on the agenda were adopted.
1- REGISTRATION OF STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DSCHANG TO THE CAMEROON NATIONAL COUNCIL OF PHARMACISTS
ln order to allow pharmacy graduates of the University of Dschang to operate in all serenity and considering clarifications of the Cameroon Council of Pharmacists of (CCP), the Commission took note of the wonderful arrangements made by this order, with a view to facilitate the registration of the concerned to this order.
2- CHANGE OF HEADS OF ESTABLISHMENT IN PRIVATE HIGHER MEDICAL TRAINING INSSITUTIONS
With a view to enabling accredited private medical training institutions to have competent officials, participants recommended that these institutions be informed officially that they have to render account systematically to the Chairperson of this Commission of any changes at the helm of their Institutions and forward such changes to him for opproval.
3- FUNCTIONING OF NEWLY CREATED ESTABLISHMENTS
The deans of the two newly created faculties were invited to take all necessary measures to align training within these faculties to the standards required in medical training. ln this regard, an inspection mission was recommended by the Commission for the purpose of evaluating the quality of medical training in these establishments.
4- MUTUALIZATION OF HUMAN RESOURCES IN all MEDICAL TRAINING ESTABLISHMENTS
ln order to curb the teacher deficit which is acute in some schools, the Commission urges all heads of public and private institutions to pool together and mutualize the use of their human resources. The commission recommends that Heads of Schools create a discussion group amongst themselves so as to operationalize this recommendation before the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
Furthermore, commissioners validated the calendar of the national competitive medical examinations for the 2018 session as well as the distribution of places by training Institution in the National Competitive Common Entrance Examination for Medical Training.
At the end of the working session, the Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Academic Orders, Chairperson of the Commission, congratulated participants for their fruitful contributions and urged them to invest more for the optimal implementation of the Commission’s resolutions.
The work of the Commission ended with the gratitude expressed by participants to His Excellency Paul BIYA, President of the Republic, Head of State, for his very high and constant concern ceaselessly manifested to the entire university community recently manifested in the creation of two new medical training institutions, namely:
– The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University Dschang in Dschang ;
– The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Ngaoundere in Garoua.
